Empowering Birth

An empowering birth is not necessarily about the type of labour that you have. It is about feeling listened to, feeling properly cared for and being able to make informed decisions about how you want to birth your baby.

Having that trusted trained person to offer continuous support at your birth contributes to having a better and more positive birth experience. I am here to help you prepare for the birth of your baby and to help you feel calm and confident about the process of birth. I will be with you at your birth and support you and your birth partner practically and emotionally.  My support ensures that your overall experience of birth is a positive one.

My approach

As your doula, my aim is to help prepare you to feel calm and confident about your journey to birth your baby and to help you have a positive experience. I draw on knowledge and experience gained from training with leaders in women-centered maternity care and supporting women in a variety of birth settings. I am always guided by your wishes, focusing on body-mind connection and guarding mothers mental and emotional states at every stage of birth.  I am here for you every step of the way:

Before. During. After

I help prepare you during your pregnancy, by familiarising you with how birth unfolds, with NHS procedures and applying techniques to help you feel more relaxed, reassured and focused  as you progress to birth your baby. I will attend the birth to give you and your partner emotional and practical support and I am there for you postnatally, I can offer you infant feeding support as well to help you get back on your feet.

My partner and I were so lucky to have Grace as our doula, she is cheerful and positive, listens and makes sure to understand your questions so she can give thoughtful, insightful information. She is very supportive and we were so happy to see how prepared she was for our early arrival - while I was feeling the contraction surges, Grace had a lavender massage oil ready to rub my lower back, it really helped - and when we unexpectedly had to go to hospital Grace was armed with many important supplies from protein bars to shower gel, as well as her ever-steady, affectionate support. She stayed with me a long time in the hospital until she was confident I was truly settled, it was amazing to have someone so calm and supportive there with us. Grace is a wonderful influence to have around for the whole wonderful birth process, from planning to birthing to settling into life as a larger family. Thank you, Grace, for your time, insight and love. We would not hesitate to recommend having Grace by your side for your birth journey.

As a student, I sought out Grace  when I was in early labour as I did not want to give birth on my own.  She arrived straight away and when I saw her, I instantly felt I had known her for ages. I was able to feel more relaxed about labour and I felt the I could rely on her to guide me to the natural birth that I needed as I did not have help around.  Labour was long and she stayed with me for the two days we spent in hospital. She brought me food and made sure I was well looked after. I am forever grateful for the care and support she gave me. After I gave birth, Grace visited me twice to make sure that I was doing well and she helped me with feeding issues.

Having Grace as a birth and postnatal doula has been the best choice we could make. Grace is sweet, understanding, never judgemental and was a real support for both me and my husband. During my long labour, having her there meant my husband could go home for a few hours and get some rest, knowing I was fully taken care of and not alone. And postnatally, especially after my husband went back to work, having Grace coming over for a few hours during the day, helped me not feeling alone or helpless, trusting there was someone caring and that I could trust with my baby while resting or taking a shower. Definitely I would ask Grace to be our doula again should we have a second child!

Grace was our doula for the birth or our second son. I had had a c-section with my first child after having a relatively straight forward labour. I felt I needed extra support to achieve a VBAC so I looked for a local doula. Having Grace with us made a world of difference to how I laboured. She was someone we could both trust and depend on and I could not have done it without the back message she gave me. She was also great with my first born and after the birth she brought us a home cooked meal and made sure that we were all looked after. Having a doula was the best decision we made.
